Dublin, the home of Croke Park, Europe's third largest stadium, is also the home of Guinness and birthplace of sports stars including Brian O'Driscoll, Eoin Morgan and Robbie Keane. With a population in the Greater Dublin area of roughly 500,000 people, there is a proportionally high number of available 3G football pitches per capita, found in schools, sports centres, football centres and leisure centres across the city.
Here is a list of the pick of the bunch:
Alexandra College is a girls school with enviable sports facilities and a real community focus in the way it offers its facilities. There is a huge emphasis on local groups who enjoy its sporting offerings such as a sports hall, two large astroturf pitches, multi-use rooms, tennis courts and a pristine 11 a side football pitch. The two large astroturf pitches can be split up into smaller pitches, meaning there are no less than eight 3g football pitches for hire. Look out for holiday camps too and a range of classes and activities for people of all ages.
Dublin Indoor Football Centre is a standout 5 a side football venue as it has 4G pitches for hire. It's as if 3G wasn't good enough and they've raised astroturfs in Dublin to a new level. There are two smaller 5 a side pitches and a larger pitch which is perfect for 8 a side or can be split into two smaller lots. There is a broad range of leagues throughout the week as well as social sessions and more.
Astropark is one of the largest 5 a side centres in the whole of Ireland, not just Dublin with 14 floodlit 5 a side football pitches for hire. One of the main attractions of the Astropark pitches (there's another one in Tallaght) is that there is so much going on within them. Whether it's bubble football, football leagues, drop in sessions, kids parties or coaching sessions it is all happening at Astropark Coolock. Furthermore there is live sport playing in the bar with food available too, making it a true social experience.
