Padel Balls: Which Ones Should You Buy? (2026 Guide)
Padel balls are one of those things players tend not to think about until they play with bad ones. A dead ball changes the entire feel of the game — rallies become shorter, bounce becomes unpredictable, and the sport is less enjoyable. This guide covers everything you need to know about choosing, using, and storing padel balls in Ireland.
Padel balls vs tennis balls
Padel balls and tennis balls look almost identical, but they are not interchangeable. Padel balls have lower internal pressure (between 4.6 and 5.2 kg/cm² vs 6.0+ for tennis), which produces a lower, slower bounce suited to the smaller padel court. Playing with tennis balls on a padel court results in an excessively high bounce that makes the game frustrating and harder to control.
All the balls we stock are FIP (International Padel Federation) approved, meaning they meet the official specification for competitive play. For a full overview of padel rules and equipment standards, see our padel rules guide.
The four padel balls we stock
We carry four brands of padel balls, each with slightly different characteristics. Here is an honest comparison.
Head Padel Pro S+
The official ball of the Premier Padel tour — the highest level of professional padel. The Pro S+ has excellent consistency and a lively but controlled bounce. It holds its pressure well over multiple sessions and is the ball most closely associated with professional play. If you want what the pros use, this is it.
Wilson Premier Padel
Wilson's premium padel ball with their Dura-Weave felt for consistent flight characteristics. Wilson balls tend to feel slightly heavier and more solid than competitors, which many players prefer for control. Excellent durability — these hold up well over multiple sessions.
Adidas Speed RX
A strong all-rounder at a slightly lower price point. The Speed RX offers a fast, responsive bounce and good felt quality. A solid choice for regular players who go through balls frequently and want reliable quality without paying top price.
Bullpadel Premium Pro
The most affordable FIP-approved ball in our range. The Premium Pro delivers solid performance and is a great choice for practice sessions, social play, and beginners who are going through balls while learning. Less premium felt than the Head or Wilson options, but perfectly good for recreational play.
How often should you replace padel balls?
Padel balls lose pressure over time, even when not being used. Once a tube is opened, the balls will play noticeably differently after 2-3 sessions of hard play. For casual social games, you might stretch to 4-5 sessions, but the quality of play drops with each use.
For competitive matches, always use fresh balls. For practice, slightly used balls are fine — they are actually better for developing control since they bounce lower and slower.
Storage tips
Keep tubes sealed until use. Pressurised balls lose pressure once the tube is opened. Only open a new tube when you are ready to play.
Store in a cool, dry place. Heat accelerates pressure loss. Do not leave balls in a hot car boot or direct sunlight.
Consider a pressuriser. If you play frequently, a ball pressuriser (a sealed tube that maintains pressure) can extend the life of opened balls by several sessions. Worth the investment if you play 2-3 times per week.
