Where to Play Padel in Leitrim
There are no padel courts open in County Leitrim. What Leitrim has is two live planning applications with Leitrim County Council — one at Leitrim Gaels GAA, one at Dromahair Community Park, two outdoor courts each. Lodged is not the same as granted, and granted is not the same as built. Nothing is under construction and nothing is bookable.
If you want a game this month you are driving into Longford, Cavan or Mayo. And if you are in the north of the county, be warned that the obvious town — Sligo — has no open courts either.
Where Leitrim Players Can Play Right Now
Leitrim runs from Carrick-on-Shannon in the south to Kinlough in the north, and the two ends of the county look in completely different directions for a court.
Longford — Edgeworthstown
Padel 100 Edgeworthstown has two outdoor courts open, and it is the shortest run for most of south Leitrim, Carrick-on-Shannon included. See padel in Longford.

Mayo — Ballina
Project Padel Mayo in Ballina is indoor, which is the one to reach for when the weather rules out everything else. It is a longer drive from most of Leitrim, but it is the closest indoor court in this direction and it does not cancel on you. See padel in Mayo.
A warning about the north of the county
Manorhamilton, Dromahair and Kinlough all naturally look towards Sligo, and Sligo has no open padel courts — two venues are in the pipeline there but neither is taking bookings. Both are outdoor, both are for two courts, and both are sitting with Leitrim County Council. Neither has been decided as far as we are aware, so neither has permission.

Those are the only two Leitrim entries we track, and both of them are applications rather than venues.
What "Application Lodged" Actually Means
It is worth being precise about this, because plenty of coverage treats a planning application as an announcement that courts are coming. It is not.
- Lodged: The application is with the council and the file is public. Nothing has been decided. This is where both Leitrim projects are.
- Further information: The council can come back looking for more detail, which pauses the clock and can add months.
- Decision: Permission is granted or refused. Either outcome is possible, and conditions attached to a grant can change what actually gets built.
- Appeal: A grant can be appealed to An Bord Pleanála by a third party, which adds a further stage.
- Build: Even with permission in hand, a project still needs funding, a contractor and a construction programme before anyone hits a ball.
So the accurate statement about Leitrim is that two clubs have put applications in. Whether either becomes a court, and when, is not something anyone can tell you today. Before You Drive
- Ring ahead: All three of the counties above take advance bookings, and evening slots go first. A wasted round trip from Leitrim is a long evening.
- Weigh indoor against distance: A closer outdoor court you might lose to rain is not always the better bet than a longer drive to a court under a roof.
- Bring a four: Padel is doubles. It splits the court fee and the diesel.
- Book the longer slot: If ninety minutes is on offer, take it. The travelling costs the same either way.
Getting Started with Padel
If the Leitrim applications do come through, they will bring the sport to people who have never played it, so this is worth knowing in advance. Padel is deliberately easy to start: an underarm serve, a court about a third the size of a tennis court, and glass walls that keep the ball in play. Rallies last, beginners get points, and four people of mixed ability can have a genuine game.
- Play off the glass: Let the ball come off the back wall rather than rushing it. It sits up and gives you time.
- Go to the net together: The net position wins points. Move as a pair, not one at a time.
- Herringbone soles: Court shoes give you the sideways grip padel needs. Runners do not.
- Start with a round frame: Round head, soft core, big sweet spot. That is the shape that flatters a beginner.
- Outdoor means weather: Both Leitrim proposals are outdoor courts. Worth factoring in when you think about how much play a season here would actually give you.

Padel in Leitrim: What Happens Next
Two applications is two more than several counties have, and both come from community and club settings rather than commercial operators — Leitrim Gaels and Dromahair Community Park. If they are granted and built, they would cover the two ends of the county reasonably well, which is not always how court placement works out.
But neither has been decided, both could be refused or altered, and outdoor courts in the north-west come with a weather qualification that indoor sites do not. We are not going to put a date on any of it.
