A control-first round racket with a huge sweet spot and an arm-friendly feel — the counterpuncher's frame. It is not built for power and does not pretend to be.
The Babolat Counter Vertuo 2.6 is the 2026 round racket in Babolat's Vertuo range — the range Babolat pitches at "amateur and intermediate players who want to make rapid progress". It keeps the forgiving round head of a beginner frame but moves to a carbon frame, a Black EVA core and three of Babolat's technologies: Vibrabsorb damping, a 3D Spin face and the Smart Buttcap. What reviewers praise
The sweet spot. Padelful scores it 9.1 and calls it "huge". The round mould does most of the work: under pressure at the baseline or in a fast exchange at the net, off-centre contact stays playable — which is what buys a counterpuncher confidence.
Comfort. Fibreglass faces over a carbon frame, a Black EVA core, and Babolat's Vibrabsorb System working elastomer into the graphite of the core and handle. The impact is muted and arm-friendly over long sessions — Padelvergleich specifically notes the damping makes it "friendlier on the arm".
Manoeuvrability. At 350g with an even 265mm balance it's quick through the air. Padelful: "I never feel like I'm dragging a sluggish head around." That shows up on reaction blocks and on bandeja setup.
What reviewers criticise
Power. 6.6 — the lowest score on the card, and every reviewer says the same. Ball exit is easy but not lively; in attack it can feel "a little too polite". You generate your own pace or you don't have any.
Bite at the net. Volleys are neat and controllable, but the racket won't turn a neutral volley into a heavy one. It rewards timing and placement over aggression.
The ceiling. padelit's test puts it plainly: its limits show as intensity rises. If your game is built on violent finishes and pronounced pace, you'll outgrow it. That's what the Technical Vertuo exists for.
Irish conditions
Fibreglass faces and a Black EVA core hold their feel in the cold better than a stiff full-carbon face, and the round head keeps the ball predictable when timing goes off in a chilly outdoor session. The Vibrabsorb damping matters more than usual here — cold hands and a harsh frame are a bad combination. It's well suited to the indoor clubs where most Irish padel is played, and the even balance makes it a good match for the fast, reactive net exchanges of club doubles. The Counter Vertuo 2.6 is an honest racket.
