Tipperary has padel, and it arrived through the GAA. Padel 100 - Borrisoleigh GAA has two outdoor courts open and in play, with one more Padel 100 site, at Cahir, on the way. Both are part of the Padel 100 network, which has been putting courts into GAA grounds and schools rather than building standalone clubs - a model that suits a large inland county where the population is spread across a lot of towns.

Borrisoleigh sits between Thurles and Nenagh in the north of the county, and its GAA grounds are where padel landed in Tipperary. Two outdoor courts, artificial grass, open for booking through the Padel 100 network. Being outdoor, they play best on a dry evening - and being attached to a GAA club, they tend to be busy when training is on, so book ahead rather than chancing it.

The Cahir site is at a secondary school rather than a sports club, and it matters because it is the first padel in south Tipperary. Cahir is on the M8, which makes it reachable from Clonmel, Cashel and Tipperary town. Planning: Tipperary County Council ref. 2561123 (a school sports campus including 2 padel courts), granted with conditions 23 April 2026.

This scheme has planning permission but is not on our venue list, because the council file does not say how many padel courts it will have. Details come from council records in our planning register.

• Units 9 and 9b, Springfort Retail Park, Nenagh — first floor to a gym and padel courts (number of courts not stated; applicant TBB Fitness Ltd). Tipperary County Council ref. 2660037, granted with conditions 12 April 2026; the council recorded a commencement notice on 9 June 2026.

Padel 100 - Nenagh GAA Éire Óg

Padel 100 has been reported as bringing two courts to Éire Óg Nenagh, which would put padel in north Tipperary's largest town. The planning application for 3 modular courts at Stereame, Nenagh North (Tipperary County Council ref. 2561264, with Éire Óg GAA as landowner) was withdrawn on 15 June 2026, after an earlier submission was incomplete. With no live permission behind it, it is not in our court count.

The Padel Scene in Tipperary

Tipperary is the largest inland county in Ireland, and that shapes how padel is arriving here. There is no single centre of population to build a big club around - instead there is Thurles, Nenagh, Clonmel, Cashel, Carrick-on-Suir and Tipperary town, each with its own catchment. Two courts in one place will not serve all of that.

Which is why the Padel 100 approach makes sense in a county like this. Rather than one large venue, it puts a pair of courts into existing GAA grounds and schools where there is already a membership, a car park and floodlights. Borrisoleigh first, Cahir next, and a spread from north to south rather than everything in one town.

Padel suits that setup. The court is a quarter the size of a tennis court, the enclosed glass means wind matters less, and it is played in doubles - so a club with four players and an hour can get a game going without much organising. In a county with a deep GAA tradition and no shortage of people used to turning up for a Tuesday evening, that is a reasonable fit.

How to Book a Padel Court

Booking in Tipperary means going through Padel 100, who run both sites in the county. Here is the short version:

• Check availability: Book Borrisoleigh through Padel 100, or use our court finder for venues in neighbouring counties.
• Book online: Slots are reserved and paid for online, so you can hold a court from your phone.
• Get four players: Padel is doubles. If you are short, ask the club about social sessions - most venues run mix-ins for exactly this reason.
• Check the forecast: Both Tipperary sites are outdoor, so a wet Tuesday is worth planning around.

Getting Started with Padel

Padel is unusually easy to start. The serve is underarm, the walls keep the ball in play, and the court is small enough that you will have proper rallies in your first hour - which is not true of tennis.

• Use the walls: The glass is part of the court, not a boundary. Letting the ball come off the back wall is the single biggest thing that separates a beginner from someone who has played five times.
• Wear court shoes: Herringbone soles give you the lateral grip you need. Running shoes will not.
• Start with a round racket: Round frames have the sweet spot in the middle, which is far more forgiving while you are learning.
• Play with people at your level: Club mix-ins are better for improving than four friends who have all never played.
